A long time ago, in a city not a million miles from here a Scottish Indie band developed a reputation of mythical proportions. They were called the Telstar Ponies, a band of some talent and rare ability. They weren’t around for long, but their notoriety in Glasgow left many wishing for more.  The wait is finally over as the core of the band make a welcome return in the form of Porch Song Anthology — albeit with an extra member and a new direction. The Porch Song Anthology was started in 2004 by Rachel Devine, Gavin Laird and Raymond Prior. They began writing new material when theTelstar Ponies went to pasture. Following on from later Ponies releases on Geographic and Static Obelisk this new material is influenced by the spirit of British and American folk music.  Taking the folk tendencies of the defunct Ponies’ last days and developing a sound reminiscent of Richard Thompson, Gillian Welch and countless blue-grass pluckers the Porch Song Anthology‘s new album Spell of the Trembling Earth harks back to music from a bygone era. It’s a labour of love, which seems to have taken the quartet an eternity — what with babies and life getting in the way. Explains Rachel, “It’s kind of the direction we were going in towards the end of Telstar, but we’ve taken it on from there even further. Besides my brother John (who joined the band in 2005) hates all the stuff we did back then.” Whether you still have a small flame burning for Telstar or if like Porch Song’s John you like your music with atmosphere and feeling, take a walk on the dark side with Porch Song Anthology.

It's kind of the direction we were going in
towards the end of Telstar, but we've taken
it on from there even further...
